The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation grants life-changing scholarships to exceptional high school kids across the country. To celebrate their success and reconnect with long-graduated alumni, the foundation asked us to help create an online impact report that recapped their last year to donors and asked former Scholars to reconnect with the organization. They liked it so well, they asked us to come back and redesign their entire website, which is underway presently.
I am currently working with Coca-Cola Scholars to map the information architecture of their new site, create high-fidelity designs, and build mockups to hand off to developers.
Work is well underway on the redesign of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation website, for which I am creating an object-oriented design that prioritizes mobile usability.
All of the content from the existing website needed to be included in the redesign, but it had become scattered and difficult to navigate as the site was updated over the years. To get things organized, I created an inventory of all of the existing pages and content. Then everything was categorized, prioritized, and incorporated into a new sitemap.
As I considered the structure and navigation of the redesign, I took an object-oriented approach, focusing first on mobile.
One of my primary focuses was using content as navigation, allowing users to progress through the site without relying heavily on the nav menu. I created a framework to define the user's mental model, identifying all of the objects on the site and then defining their relationship to one another. I also created portable objects, which could be reused throughout the site.
After identifying all of the objects (that exist currently—more will likely be added as we iterate) and the actions that users will take on each object, I started to transition to the interaction design.
Clarity, simplicity, and cohesion are my goal for this design, and the business goal is increased awareness and funding. As the design process progresses, those objectives will be top-of-mind, and I will strive to create a site that performs beautifully on mobile and scales seamlessly to desktop.
